I’ve been labeled as a covert “technology nerd” (which my friends would gladly testify to). Recently, life decided to gift me with an unexpected dose of free time. But being one who thrives on action, I’ve found myself contemplating the very essence of my technological fervor! How do we blend technology and humanity to forge a brighter future for everyone? It’s a question that has me captivated, and I can’t wait to dive into the depths of this exciting quest with you in this series of articles to uncover the secrets of merging tech and humanity for a world that’s truly amazing.
Embracing a Sustainable Program
At the heart of the humanising of technology lies a commitment to sustainability and responsible practices.
Look anywhere on the web, in the news, in media advertising…the “circular economy” is on the rise. Instead of the old “use it and toss it” approach, we’re all about reusing, recycling, and fixing things up. We want to keep stuff in circulation for as long as possible, so nothing goes to waste. It’s a win-win because we save money, help the environment, and create opportunities for both new and emerging businesses as well as a reinvention of more traditional ones.
Leading the charge in the circular economy are companies like Patagonia, who have implemented their Worn Wear program and embraced sustainable materials. Through these initiatives, Patagonia sets an inspiring example, demonstrating how to extend the lifespan of products and cultivate a culture of reuse and resource efficiency. Their efforts redefine our approach to consumption, resulting in reduced waste and the creation of a path toward a more sustainable future.

The advent of IoT (Internet of Things), AI (Artificial Intelligence), ML (Machine Learning), Blockchain, 3D Printing, and Big Data has proven invaluable in helping businesses manage resources effectively, improve operational efficiency, and develop innovative business models. Their tech-savvy approach functions as airborne lifelines, ensuring critical medical supplies reach those in need. Zipline’s drones highlight the power of technology in addressing pressing social and health challenges.

By transforming plastic waste into a type of currency, they’re cleaning up the environment while providing a stable income to individuals in underserved communities. Their innovative use of technology exemplifies the intersection of sustainable solutions and social empowerment.

This is transforming lives, especially in remote areas, by granting access to reliable, clean energy. They’re a great example of how technology can be harnessed for social good.

Seeing companies such as Provenance and Everledger leverage the power of blockchain to completely transform supply chains is truly inspiring. They’re successfully delivering verifiable data about a product’s origin, authenticity, and sustainability. By doing so, they’re equipping people with the necessary information to consciously choose ethically-produced goods. This not only promotes change but also contributes significantly to building a more equitable world.
Advancing Equality & Inclusion
Technology, when used in a thoughtful and purposeful way, can actually help mend the societal gaps we often see and encourage a sense of fairness. Companies such as Cisco and IBM are paving the way by building smart cities and solutions that are all about using resources more effectively, planning urban spaces sustainably, and improving the day-to-day lives of people everywhere.
